OK so i dled this followed the instructions on the crack, got ie and wmp. When i go to run the game nothing at all happens. It acts like its going to load then nothing at all. Anyone help? This game looks badass.
Doesn't work for me either, did the crack and have WMP and IE and nothing happens. I think this torrent is broken.
Ok, I seem to have gotten it working. Did a fresh install and installed all the extras such as .NET etc. Then tried to run it without cracking it just to see what would happen. The game started fine with no restrictions, went in and played a few minutes and encountered no problems, all features seem to be unlocked so I don't know what the .dlls and .ini are for but they don't seem to do anything. Also according to the official website this is the latest version (1.9.5.0) so I don't know what the people asking for the latest version are talking about.
I've been getting a similar problem. So instead of trying to open the main file, I instead clicked the autorun file. It took me to a blank, black screen, which was the game menu. I could hear noises as I moved my mouse over it, and I tried to feel my way to the "Play Game" icon Helen Keller style. I found the play game icon (a little pop-up next to my cursor told me it was so) but when I clicked on it, nothing happened. I vote broken torrent.
There is a version 1.9.5.1 . Its in steam as a beta patch . Would be nice if someone can upload it !

I have since done a fresh install as well with all the added bs and not copying the crack files. works fine.

If the game crashes without an error try this:
If you have already installed the game, uninstall it.
After mounting/burning the ISO file, navigate to it and find Setup.exe. Right click on it and select Run as Administrator.
After the game has installed but BEFORE pressing finish you are shown 4 options with checkboxes next to them. Check all of these boxes and click finish. This will install the frameworks necessary to play the game.
You may already have some of the frameworks installed. If this is the case, instead of a normal install opening, it will give you the option of uninstalling or repairing the framework. If this occurs simply cancel out of that install and allow it to go on to the next one.

Does not work. After install - nothing happens when you hit the .exe files
This DWU works perfectly. It is v1.9.5.0 so no need to patch it (yet). If for some reason DWU does not start, go to the game dir and run microsoft's "xnafx40_redist.msi" under "DWU_CommonRedistXNA4.0".

Latest patch is 1.9.5.5. I couldn't find it here, but it IS on the cs rin ru forums, thread titled "[Info] Distant Worlds: Universe". I just tested it and it works.

For everybody: IF THE GAME DOESN'T EVEN RUN, and YOU INSTALLED ALL of the frameworks/xnx which the setup asked you, then the problem is in your directx 9.0c, as the setup has an error with it.
GO to Microsoft.com and download "DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer", it downloads and installs all directx and sdk updates from 2006 to 2009. It fixed the problem for me, game runs like a charm now.
