"You're listening to American Top 40's weekly survey of the biggest hits from Green Bay to Brownsville; from Billings to Birmingham. I'm Casey Kasem." American Top 40 with Casey Kasem aired on radio from July 4, 1970 until August 6, 1988. This recording is a rebroadcast from internet radio. In this countdown: There is a "one week wonder." "Dance Across The Floor" by Jimmy "Bo" Horne debuts at number 38 this week and falls off the chart next week. There is also a disco remake of a song by the most successful songwriting team in the history of the chart. They were responsible for 40 chart hits and 12 number one songs. Casey gives the details. There is a movie song in the countdown by a singer who Casey says has hit the chart 56 times using 4 different professional names and 3 different voices. A listener wants to know what have been the three the biggest TV series hit themes. Casey lists all three number one hits, two from the 70's and the biggest from the 50's. There is the latest hit by a man who earned 12 gold records in a span of just two years. Casey has the details. A listener asks, "When was American Top 40 founded and what was the very first number one song?" Casey says the first song was "Mama Told Me Not To Come" by Three Dog Night on July 4th, 1970, and tells how far AT40 has come in the eight years since its first broadcast.
