Tyler's growled vocals were his trademark, but otherwise he trod similar 
ground as Ernest Tubb. This CD collects 18 recordings made for the 4 Star 
label between 1945 and 1954, including seven Top Ten C&W hits, two of 
which are recitations (the oft-covered Deck of Cards and the groan-inducing 
Dad Gave My Dog Away). It's too bad Collectors' Choice didn't cross-license 
Bumming Around, his one Top 40 C&W entry for the Decca label, but otherwise 
this disc is a perfect collection of Tyler's most important recordings. The 
sound quality is sometimes rough, but The Best of T. Texas Tyler is a welcome 
anthology of this nearly forgotten artist.
