UFO: Enemy Unknown X-COM: Terror From The Deep X-COM: Apocalypse These three games are some of the best ever made IMO and I bet you agree with me if you have played any of them. They are all old DOS-games and as such runs best on the platforms they were intended to be played on (that is to say a 486DX2-66 running MS-DOS 6.22 would be perfect for XCOM1&2 and a Pentium 166 or 200 would be preferable for XCOM3) but you might have success using DOSBox or similar with newer computers running Windows XP (I havent tried that myself). Enjoy!

played 1st 2 of these games to completion when they came out. poss best games of their period. i have winxp pro and i have run dos based games [wo sound] but not been able to get win95-98SE based games to run. since win7 is designed to run in 'winXP' mode i'm sure there is a simple way to run these [tbph, the sound on them isn't that great, maybe 3rd is ok but 1 & 2's sound are like zx spectrum!]. i lost a gf to first 2 games!!! never went to bed for 9 months! had 'qwerty' imprinted on my forehead from sleeping at the kb!
Somebody asked where interceptor was.

will appreciated if someone can share how to install this game in DOSBOX. TQ
Hey all fellow X-Com lovers, I got the first one working on Dosbox last night, using the following steps. Have yet to try the others.
1. Unzip the iso and then mount it on whichever program you use (I use demon tools)
2. Get Dosbox, im using .74
3. Here is where it gets a little tricky. You have to mount the cd drive with the iso into dos. You do this by typing the following, where the first h is going to be your mapped drive, and the h: is the drive with the iso mounted.
mount h h: -t cdrom
4. now mount your C: drive into dos by typing
mount c c:D
5. You now need to get at the mounted cdrom drive to install the game. to do so simply type
mount h (or whatever letter you mapped the drive to)
6. you should change from operating in drive z: to drive h:. Type dir to check as this will show contents of the drive
7. type install, and this should install the game onto your harddrive. for sound use soundpro and general midi without changing speaker channels, all other settings are fine. Note at this point you should be able to play the game following the on screen directions
The following directions are for next time you wanna play.
8. Remount your cdrom drive using the same commands as earlier.
9. Hopefully you noted where you installed it coz now u gotta find it. Mount your c drive first, mount c. then type dir to look at the directory to find the install folder, i think by default it installs to C:/MPS/UFO so you can actually just map this as your c drive to save some trouble --> mount c C:/MPS/UFO
10. If you have got to this point HOPEFULLY you can just type ufo and the game will run. I will monitor this for a while so if you have any questions ill try my best to answer it.

Yo, Wisey, tnx for sharing, man, but please, could you clarify the step 3 to me a little bit? Whatever letter I type in front of ":" it says "directory x doesn't exist.
My iso is mounted on a drive g, what exactly should I type?
Tnx again

Sorry for the double post
Ok, triple post, but for a reason. I figured it out, I must be blamed for totally forgetting the DOS days and its commands. Apparently a "G:" must be typed as "G:"
Anyways I managed to install the game and even start it, then I quit dosbox to make it fullscreen and now I can't re-enter the game. Any solutions to that?
After I mount my gamedir and type UFO it just lists "Illegal command" and couple of files as they are illegal. Dunno how those files are related to the command I've typed. I would try to install the game again but what the heck if I can't save and re-enter it.
Any help greatly appreciated

"G:slash"
Apparently TPB doesn't show slashes. Again my n00bness flashes around.

OK, me again. I made it, installed and tried all 3 games the same way. Every other newb like myself: just follow wisey_01's instructions and remember that the pirate bay does not show backslashes in its comments.
Thanx a bunch, wisey, much love

>Don't be a cheap bastard buy "UFO: Enemy Unknown" on steam
Fuck that, so many times steam fucks you over, you know? Bought the new xcom enemy unknown, didn't work with my system because directx 11 not available with my graphics card. But you couldn't tell me that before buying, no? Bought another classic on steam: ja2 gold, but the steam version doesn't work on windows 8 -- no need to tell me before buying, right? Also says only "minimum requirements windows 95", right.. HAHA!

However for those who want to support them, the Steam version worked fine for me on win8 64 bit, if you want to avoid the hassle of configuring dosbox correctly, etc..
To get xcom 1 working look at openxcom; works well on modern platforms - it uses the original data files but works on modern machines.
