SOLDIER by Harlan Ellison. Read by John Sharian. In a devastated future, Qarlo the footsoldier battles the enemy in a twilight landscape. Suddenly, beams of light send him back in time to 1964. This short story was the inspiration for The Terminator and was filmed as an episode of The Outer Limits. Two half-hour episodes. My recordings from BBC7 at 64kbps ABR single-channel mono mp3. Have fun and please seed, SeymourDAC

Hey SeymourCat
I think you made i Typo. "Soldier" can't be the Inspiration for "The Terminator" from 1984.
On the Danish Special Edition, there are a lot of extra Material, including an Interview with James Cameron. He says he got the Idea while he was very sick in Australia. He was attending another Filmproject.
Nevertheless he had a Nightmare and in this Dream he saw a Metal Skeleton with a lot of Fire behind...
Again just a Typo, I believe...
I've just downloaded it and looking forward to hear it...
Regards,
Actually, Ellison sued Cameron and won. After 1990 or so, all copies of The Terminator have Ellison's name in the credits.
Phantasm5 is correct...Terminator shares/borrows elements from both Soldier (warrior from future travels back in time) and Demon With a Glass Hand (robot from future travels back in time to save mankind), both of which were Outer Limits episodes written by HE and Cameron acknowledged that he had been a fan of Outer Limits as a kid.
Yes - Soldier and Demon were used by James Cameron. Also, in the story "I have no mouth but I must scream" a world-encompassing highly intelligent computer takes over all armaments and destroys all of humanity except for a handful of people... just like SkyNet does in Terminator3! Only several decades before it was made.
