It might be safe to assume that most of the folks reading this have never heard of this particular title. A 1974 teledrama of the Cuban Missile Crisis, I first saw it when taking some post-graduate classes in History. Let me the first to point out that one thing that does NOT happen in masterâ??s degree level classes in history is having a class watch a video â?? thatâ??s typically reserved for the babysitting that passes for history education in American High schools. In short, this film is THAT good. Unlike just about every other historical film ever made, this is actually what happened. Remarkably, this film still manages to be very entertaining as well as educational. I post below the amazon write-up. For those of you looking for exciting footage of warplanes or explosions, donâ??t bother â?? this isnâ??t for you. This is for adults. This is the process that a competent government of exceptional people goes through when presented with problems that exceed human capability. The mentality that would find this boring would go a long way to explaining the current state of foreign affairs of the US government, cuz I would take a bet that George W. Bush would ALSO find this to be boring. If that sounds snotty and elitist, good. It was meant to be. I ripped this to avi because the DVD has no extras. Amazon.com Without becoming didactic, The Missiles of October does an outstanding job of presenting many points of view on the Cuban missile crisis. The film humanizes Kennedy's near impossible task of avoiding war without compromising national security. The earnestness of this 1974 made-for-television dramatization may briefly remind one of social studies class--indeed it is at times difficult to maintain consciousness while the extensive cast of characters is being introduced at the opening. Not to worry, though--soon the power plays begin and The Missiles of October becomes completely gripping. Actual news footage is spliced in with the action, nicely serving as exposition and driving home just how very close the world came to nuclear war. A crew of excellent character actors flesh out the story and reveal the psychological games behind the language of diplomacy. William Devane takes on the difficult task of playing John F. Kennedy. While he doesn't quite capture Kennedy's charisma, he does occupy the role comfortably and effectively conveys the president's deep worry and determination to avoid war. Martin Sheen plays an engaging Robert Kennedy and Michael Lerner, oddly enough, manages to make Pierre Salinger absolutely fascinating. --Ali Davis http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0071847/

I have seen other uploaders include a small file with a list of their other torrents, I guess as a form of advertising. It seemed like a good idea, so I started doing it. The total size of that file is about 1 mb. Have I violated some etiquette rule? I try pretty hard to put up torrents different from the common offerings, and didn't think it would bother anyone to alert people to that. If it bothers people, I can stop, but lots of others are doing it and you'll pardon me if I don't think my uploads are 'trash'.
I was in high school when this happened. Don't recall the TV movie, though. Looking forward to seeing it. Thanks a lot.
I don't mind the extra folder. It's easy to deselect if needed, and since the torrents listed are pretty rare, I'd say it doesn't really matter. I'll grab this and a couple of the other torrents in the file. So :P at ya, Kuthumi.
Thanks for this torrent - hiding away like a sneaky little Russian ICBM on the quieter part of TPB !
Seems a shame that 3 out of the only 4 comments are some sort of Issue - in and of itself that is ok, issues are issues afterall - but I thought a little less of the 'issues' and a little more gratitude would be appropriate.
Afterall compared with the subject matter at hand - the existiction level event that a 5000 megaton exchange would produce - a few extra text files in the very torrent explaining that part of history seems like such a fucking stupid thing to even bother mentioning frankly.
Accordingly - thank you very much for the torrent, I most certainly appreciate it :)

In fact my mistake, on re-reading perhaps it really is a non issue at all. I suppose I just thought it might be more productive to thank the uploader instead of just blathering on about nothing.
Peace,
Peace,
On re-reading a third time it appears that nobody was complaining and in fact someone did indeed say thanks. So it turns out it is I that is talking shite and perhaps I out to shut the fuck up and leave the room quietly when no one is watching ;)
