AKA "Blind Beast." In Japanese with English hardsubs. IMdB: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0140384/ For screenshots, please see the NEW RELEASES thread in the Freakyflicks forum. I went looking for this movie after reading about it in Steve Erickson's fantastic, phantasmagoric novel ZEROVILLE. Based on a story by Edogawa Rampo, it promises to be fantastic and phantasmagoric as well. My rip. An IMdB user comment: A discovery like this reminds me how much more there is to Japanese cinema besides Kurosawa, Ozu, and Mizoguchi. Well, my two favorite Japanese filmmakers are Sezuki Seijun and Shinya Tsukamoto, maverick filmmakers in their own country. Yasuza Masumura may be thrown on that list pretty quickly here, although this production doubtlessly had more money than, say, Branded to Kill. I won't go into too much detail with Blind Beast. Suffice it to say that it's one of the best films I've ever seen. It's easy to compare it to some vaguely arty trash like In the Realm of the Senses (and I say that in the best way). That film was discovered by the French. I wish they would have found this and canonized it instead. It's far more artistically accomplished, and much, much more emotionally and physically draining. 10/10. - zetes --- File Information --- File Size (in bytes): 655,108,096 --- Container Information --- Base Type (e.g "AVI"): AVI(.AVI) Subtype (e.g "OpenDML"): OpenDML (AVI v2.0), Interleave (in ms): 42 Preload (in ms): 504 Audio alignment("split across interleaves"): Aligned Total System Bitrate (kbps): 0 Bytes Missing (if any): 0 Number of Audio Streams: 1 --- Video Information --- Video Codec Type(e.g. "DIV3"): xvid Video Codec Name(e.g. "DivX 3, Low-Motion"): XviD Video Codec Status(e.g. "Codec Is Installed"): Codec(s) are Installed Duration (hh:mm:ss): 01:24:06 Frame Count: 120984 Frame Width (pixels): 720 Frame Height (pixels): 320 Frame Aspect Ratio (e.g "1.3333"): Frame Aspect Ratio (e.g. "4:3"): Pixel Aspect Ratio ("SAR"): Display Aspect Ratio ("DAR"): 2.250 Frames Per Second: 23.96 Video Bitrate (kbps): 927 MPEG-4 ("MPEG-4" or ""): MPEG-4 B-VOP ("B-VOP" or ""): B-VOP --- Audio Information --- Audio Codec (e.g. "AC3"): 0x0055(MP3, ISO) MPEG-1 Layer 3 Audio Sample Rate (Hz): 48000 Audio Bitrate(kbps): 103 Audio Bitrate Type ("CBR" or "VBR"): VBR Audio Channel Count (e.g. "2" for stereo): 2 *********************************** FREAKYFLICKS ************************************ FreakyFlicks is a free and open community dedicated to preserving and sharing cinematic art in the digital era.
