These are virtually all pictures (more than 43,000) from the Canon Challenge amateur photography contest. Unfortunately, I was only able to rip the photos from the flash website without any additional information (like who the photographer is or a description of the photo).

I've used the firebug plugin for firefox and winhttrack to obtain all pictures, although I had to browse all the thumbnails to obtain weblinks for the pictures, which took about half a day.

For conditions and terms to use these pictures, I refer to the Canon website:

http://ta.canon-europe.com/index.php?pg=gallery&cc=gb&lc=en

For info about a specific photo, where the name of the picture is xxx.jpg,
you can view the webpage:
http://ta.canon-europe.com/?pg=gallery&cc=gb&lc=en&photo_id=xxx

(So you have to substitute the filename without the extension of the picture for 'xxx'.)

If you have the photos on your computer, you can view them more conveniently in a slideshow to form a better judgement of the pictures that stand out from the rest and deserve a vote. You need to register for voting and you can vote on multiple pictures.

I've created rar files for each of the 18 countries participating in the competition. The rar files do not have an associated password and can be extracted with winrar 3.50 or newer.

Pictures are divided in 4 categories: Landscape, Macro, Portrait and Sports.

File list not available.

Oh, actually it should be titled "Canon, the Assignment"... 'challenge' is just the word that comes closest to the Dutch title for the contest "Canon, de Uitdaging".
he daar staat ook een foto van mij bij.......
Welke dan? Van mij staat er ook een foto bij.
Are you saying amateur photographers are struggling artists?
Ah, so it's perfectly ok to rip off accomplished artists?
Or do you have to wait until the artists die before you can rip them off?
Besides, sharing information isn't my idea of ripping people off. Photographers can always add watermarks and other protection to their 'intellectual property' if they are paranoid about their picture falling into the wrong hands.
If a photographer is opposed to the idea of people gaining access to their pictures, they shouldn't put their pictures online or submit their picture to an online photography contest.
So far I've discovered at least two pics that are incomplete in the archive:

foto480d9bc0c5510.jpg
foto48170bfa1fc87.jpg
(both from the uk-ireland:landscape category).

If other people find incomplete or missing pics, please mention them here as a comment.
It's fairly easy to use firefox with the firebug plugin to download individual pics to complete the collection.
um, whats the point of this?

What is your obsession with other amateur photography?

What's next? You trying to mirror flickr.com?
The point of this is that I'm interested in photography and I find it inspiring to view these pictures in a slideshow on the computer. Canon will probably take the photos offline once the contest is over, because for them the whole point of it is to stimulate camara sales.
Ripping flickr is a good idea, yes, like many other photography websites (pbase, picasa, etc..).
This pic has a weird bug: foto4817353ea0169.jpg
