Notes on converting the Tim Buckley LPs.

Converting was casual.
I did nothing to get rid of pops which are very few.
I did not label the tracks except by album portions.
You will have roughly the LP experience
which I?ve had for the 35years or so since I bought them.

Lots of included printed materials make it convenient to know what?s going on ?
AMG album descriptions, track listings with times, complete lyric sheets,
pictures of Tim, and essays by his lead guitarist Lee Underwood.

I have an Ion USB turntable, costing $100 and change, plugged into my computer.
I use a cloth diaper to wipe off the LP.
I use FREE Audacity downloaded software.

I export as wav from Audacity,
since Audacity apparently does not have an mp3 license.
I do not save in Audacity.

I convert from wave to 256kps mp3 using
FREE ?Switch? by NCH Swift Sound.
I delete the wav files.

I have thousands of LPs, as well as CDs.
I enjoy hearing them again while they are converting
and while I am using the computer to do other things at the same time.

I have a 931GB Western Digital ?My Book? external hard drive for archiving,
and a 320GB Western Digital ?Passport? pocket USB plug-and-play hard drive
for using, sharing, and collecting, without need for outside power.

I highly recommend all of this equipment and software.

What I would like, and do not have,
because amazingly it does not seem to exist,
is a way to plug and play my external hard drives
through an audio or DVD system
without going through a full-feature computer.

My pocket drive should be able to bury i-scams and existing mp3 players.
Western Digital is missing a great bet here.

Let me know if there is something you want me to do better.

Thanks for the quality upload! You are appreciated.
If you get external disks like these, which has NAS:
http://www.wdc.com/en/products/Products.asp?DriveID=340

Or get a NAS-box, fill it with drives and use that as a fileserver.

OR set up a fileserver running Linux...

You can share folders on them on your local network, plug them into a switch or wireless router - and get a Media Center System (I use my Xbox, numerous others are available) connect it to your audio-system... and voilá, no need to go through your computer.

Also, for archiving I would strongly suggest using FLAC, instead of MP3, as MP3 are a lossless format and not suitable for archiving.

Hello;
this post was great...Thanks so much!!!
I used to own all the Buckley LPs which I was so silly to sell for buying the same on CDs...and the sound has never been the same since..
It has been a real pleasure to discover my lost LPs again thanks to your kindness...
I hope you can do it again with other gems, I would ask for some if I could know what you have in LP..
I try some requests...
any Pearl Before Swine or Tom Rapp as LPs?
Or Holy Modal Rounders?
Thanks a lot anyway for Buckley:))))
Tamroi,

Just a quick note to express my appreciation for the work you have put into creating this fine Tim Buckley collection direct from the original LPs. It's absolutely fantastic and your efforts have really paid off. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

Highly recommended download.
Hello
I wonder if it would be a big deal for you to upload the lossless format of the ripped LP's, preferably FLAC or the format your software uses..

Anyway, thanks a lot for these albums, they sound much better than the Cd's I have.
