The most powerful case against the American central bank ever written. This work begins with a mini-treatment of money and banking theory, and then plunges right in with the real history of the Federal Reserve System. Rothbard covers the struggle between competing elites and how they converged with the Fed. Rothbard calls for the abolition of the central bank and a restoration of the gold standard. His popular treatment incorporates the best and most up-to-date scholarship on the Fed's origins and effects. The contents of this volume include: * Introduction: Money and Politics * The Genesis of Money * What is the Optimum Quantity of Money? * Monetary Inflation and Counterfeiting * Legalized Counterfeiting * Loan Banking * Deposit Banking * Problems for the Fractional-Reserve Banker: The Criminal Law * Problems for the Fractional-Reserve Banker: Insolvency * Booms and Busts * Types of Warehouse Receipts * Enter the Central Bank * Easing the Limits on Bank Credit Expansion * The Central Bank Buys Assets * Origins of the Federal Reserve: The Advent of the National Banking System * Origins of the Federal Reserve: Wall Steet Discontent * Putting Cartelization Across: The Progressive Line * Putting a Central Bank Across: Manipulating a Movement, 1897-1902 * The Central Bank Movement Revives, 1906-1910 * Culmination at Jekyll Island * The Fed at Last: Morgan-Controlled Inflation * The New Deal and the Displacement of the Morgans * Deposit "Insurance" * How the Fed Rules and Inflates * What Can Be Done? Thanks for your tireless dedication to the truth chakra. Since we're taxed on every dollar we make and pay sales tax when we spend a dollar, shouldn't people start bartering? You could barter with gold and silver and save money if everyone would agree to accept that as payment. Bartering is still legal too, but people rarely do it. I should just listen to this, it will probably will answer my questions.
I just hope people listen to this. We all get the 'conspiracy theory' around the creation of the fed, but it's NO theory! They were created by the bankers so that they could cartelize the banking industry and to protect themselves against bank runs! It is no theory at all!
Yes, barter is still legal. Yes you can do business in gold, but there's a big problem with it. Gold is no longer legal tender. So basically what that means is that if you owe someone a debt and you offer to pay in gold then they can refuse. If you offered to pay in dollars and they refused then legally the debt can be discharged since they did not accept the LEGAL TENDER of the land. This is why our dollars say "This note is legal tender for all debts, public and private" on them.
Plus, you can't pay taxes in gold... But that doesn't stop you from doing personal business in gold and to avoid debt, which everyone should avoid anyway... IMO.
I'm from the south-east United States and we do lots of barter at yard sales and even personally. Stuff like, I'll give you this old lawnmower if you help me rebuild my truck engine. Sounds red-neck, but it avoids taxes, and it makes for good inter-personal relationships.
Anyway... I hope people enjoy this great book and pass it around the world! :)

LeninistStalinist, We do not have true capitalism anywhere on the planet. To blame capitalism for the death of even one human is bullshit since it doesn't exist. Just read the fucking book and see how stupid you really are.
