(Problems with magnets links are fixed by upgrading your torrent client!)
I've managed to compile a complete contents list of the entire Great Science Textbooks Library 2007 ebook collection (or at least all the books until the most recent update, Dec 08). They are categorised by subject and should be in alphabetical order. If there are any mistakes, it is more than likely to be an error made by myself as I did all the compiling by hand. The good thing about this torrent is that you can now see the entire contents _without_ duplicates (I've removed what I could, and have kept in any I wasn't sure about, so there may still be some duplicates). Unfortunately, the disk that each file is on is not written in this contents list. That was deliberate as I felt it would be better to see the collection as a whole. I'm still in the process of downloading the collection myself, but will probably re-upload the whole collection by subject, rather than by disk, as I understand that many people only want books from a specific topic. If I have time in the future, I may get round to removing _all_ duplicates, changing some names of the files around (to be consistent, rather than the current situation of having some files listed by author and some by title), and organizing the books in a more specific manner so specific topics are easy to find books on. I hope that this contents list will be of use to at least someone.

Good job man! Merry Christmas :)
Awesome, thanks dude !!!!
Thanks. Merry Christmas to you all too. Does anyone have any suggestions to make the contents list easier to read perhaps (I'm not concerned with formatting at the moment), more consistent, etc? I'm in the middle of removing the authors' names from the beginnings of some titles and putting them at the end of the titles, so I can rearrange the books into a truly alphabetical order by title. After that, I'll probably adjust the folders a bit so the structure of the library is more consistent, detailed, and easier to find books on specific topics.
Anyone have any do-able ideas? Bear in mind I'm doing all this by hand! Eventually, like I said, I plan to upload all books by subject. I have a bunch of other books on maths and biology, does anyone think it'd be a good idea to merge these into this library to have a bigger collection?

Ok here are my 2 cents:
1.) Don't worry about the list, its fine.
There are so many freaking books in there, all we really need is having them categorized.
2.) I'm not sure about re-uploading them by subject.
At first its sounds like a good idea, but i see 2 problems with that:
a.) What about the bandwidth, do you (we) really have enough of it to seed all the books 4 or 5 times?
b.) GSTL is not the only textbook torrent and if you download others you have to incorporate these books into your collection anyways. In the end you always have a terrible mess (at least i do).
GSTL is the best and biggest collection so far and i believe it will be seeded forever not just because its huge but because it has a broad range of topics (something for everyone). I dont know whether a math-only / biology-only .. torrent could survive.
And if the december update really shall be the last one (which i doubt) we can always go to gigapedia (check if your books are there already) and make updates ourselves.

Sorry, mareechikaa, what do you mean by me having omitted the volume number? Do you mean the edition number of each book? If you mean the literal "volume number" for works that are divided into several books, ie. volumes, I don't think I've deleted any volume numbers that were already there...
If, however, you mean the edition numbers, especially for books that there are several versions of in the library, that is true; I've kept in all the editions that are in the full collection, even if they're of the same book. Are you suggesting I only keep in the most recent editions of books and remove the entries for previous editions? Is that what you mean by being able to "update" the contents list easily?
My real aim is to try and clean up and organise the whole library a bit. To me, the library is a fantastic collection of fascinating works that _everyone_ should have access to. And so I think it'd be a shame for it to suffer just to basic logistics and practical issues that can be solved in a simple manner.
Please keep the suggestions coming; not just about the contents list here, but in how better to organise the library as a whole.

He means the number that tells us in which torrent to look for the book, as in "october update", "supplement four" etc.. :-)
Ah, fair enough, that makes more sense. Though speaking of editions, what are people's thoughts on the idea of having more than one edition of the same book in the library? Would you prefer there to be only the most recent edition, or are there circumstances where keeping all the editions would be better?
I see no reason not to include all editions in at least one torrent. It would save bandwidth to upload a torrent for both, those who want a literal university library (which would have all editions as there are sometimes changes that are detrimental and so an older edition will be better), and one with just the most recent edition for those who are more casually interested in the subject.
Also, if there is anything I could assist you with please tell me as this is a monumental task and I would love to contribute to such a worth while cause.

Thank you for the offer, calandril, but unless you feel up to getting the publishing details of every book in the library and noting them down, I don't know what you can do! I'm in the process of writing down the following pieces of information on every book, so that the contents can be tabulated properly later on: Title; Edition; Primary Author; Publisher; Year Published; Disk Number. I'm still on the "Algebra and Geometry" folder as the process is pretty laborious, as you can imagine!
In other news, I've made the contents list more consistent in that every entry is properly alphabetized by title, with the author's name at the end of the filename (if it was originally at the beginning of the filename). It's now easier to see specific books. In the process of doing this, I removed even more duplicate books. I'll upload the updated contents list now...
