This is a film made by the brazilian critical Wilson Coutinho about approximately ten years of artistic prodution of Cildo Meireles. This work in situations, analogies, comments and records of some film work of the artist like Virtual Spaces: Corners (1968), Insertions into Ideological Circuits (1970–76), and others.

Sintonizes with the artist speech, the film builds a narrative of a rupture with the speech that restricts the arts its concern strictly visual, and its subservience to the ability of the manual - the look built by hand. Not only the artist but also the critical - the look of the critical discourse - cutting to the understanding of the facts to what was hitherto invisible, focusing on the history of art and the blurring of boundaries of language and setting the artistic as do cultural product, social, political.

All this is a justaposition of contexts, bricolage, appropriations, recodifications: in a world where the illusions of values and the fetish of money continues as never being manufactured in series to reduce human relations to strategies of consuption, those that have not understood the message, take lead, as would say John Wayne. O filme Cildo Meireles, de Wilson Coutinho, 1979, é uma leitura poético/crítica da obra de Cildo Meireles abrangendo cerca de 10 anos da produção do artista. nele encontramos situações, analogias, comentários e registros fílmicos desdobrados de alguns trabalhos do artista como Espaços Virtuais: Cantos (1967); Totem Monumento ao Preso político (1969), Inserções em circuitos ideológicos (1970) etc.

O filme constrói uma narrativa de ruptura com o discurso que restringe as artes plásticas a sua apreensão estritamente visual, e o seu fazer à subserviência da habilidade manual - o olhar construído pela mão. Não só o artista, como também o crítico - o olhar do discurso crítico - corta o entendimento dos fatos para aquilo que até então estava invisível, incidindo sobre a história da arte e sobre a diluição das fronteiras da linguagem e situando o fazer artístico como produto cultural, social, político.

Justaposição de contextos, colagem, apropriações, recodificações: num mundo onde as ilusões de valores e o fetiche do dnheiro continuam como nunca sendo fabricados em série para reduzir as relações humanas a estratégias de consumo, os que não entenderem a mensagem levam chumbo, como diria John Wayne.
