standard scene groups release movie in rars ...
1.not to save/waste bandwidth
2.not because they are lazy
or whatever u come up with
its to ward of anti privacy issues.....
none of the group members have all rars on one server....
they may catch one or two but cannot link it to the group.....now u know ...apply logic and u will get it all

Do you think people will keep both rars AND the media file on their computers? Nope, that's why there are very little seeders when big movie file are split into rars.

i always wondered about the rar files in a torrents.. i learned something new today! thanks for explanation - i will never question issue again..
@sinvis, that isn't at all why scene releases are in rars.
It's done for historical reasons of what the scene used to be like, when connections were slower and there was no continuing a failed download. You couldn't risk downloading a massive file and having it fail, so they split files to simplify which files you needed to re-download if your files were corrupt. This was way before torrent existed. They still use these formats because the scene still uses the same scripts to process files and there is no reason to change it.
Make up what you like, but that's the reason. I was there.
