This is a TPB listing of an existing torrent - I did not create it. Thanks to the original (unknown) poster of the torrent I post it here (and Demoniod, Mininova) to encourage a longtime healthy seed. I grew up listening to this recording (Conifer Records 1973) and hence, prefer it to all other versions, even though it is abridged. I literally wore out my original LPs of it. It is in wma format- if you want MP3's, iTunes or others will convert the files for you (you might want to adjust your import settings down - 96kbps mono is usually fine for audio books, although there is some nice music in this recording). The entire recording (in 10 minute segments) is also available on/watch?v=fihFNfmZ4u4 Cheers, FerraBit January 2009 __________________________________________________ From the included info file: Type.................: Audiobook Platform.............: CD (encoded to WMA) Number of Parts......: CD1 (16 Files) CD2 (17 Files) CD3 (18 Files) Title................: The Hobbit by JRR Tolkien Artist...............: Read by Nicol Williamson Album................: The Hobbit- A Demetriou Production Year.................: 1973 Genre................: Spoken Word (children) Comment..............: 'The Hobbit' Read by Nicol Williamson. I personally believe it to be of excellent quality as making a copy using the original LP source is prone to sounding crackly and scratchy. I have not sought to tamper with the audio in any way to reduce tape hiss etc because again I found that it muffled the original audio somewhat. As such, no noise reduction (Dolby B/C or other) has been applied. If one should choose to do so subsequently- that of course is entirely up to you. I have trasferred all 3 cassettes to 3 CDs. For ease in uploading the CD has been condensed and encoded in WMA format (192k). I have incorporated my own chapter points- each track approximates to around 4-5 minutes. I have labelled the chapter points in accordance with the actual chapters of the book. I hope you enjoy this recording for it is by far the best audio reading of the book and indeed outstrips any known dramatisation of the work to date- a testament to the vocal abilities of the performer Nicol Williamson. Each character he voices- though there are many- all are given a unique identity. This together with incidental music throughout the recording adds to its perfection and all credit should be given to the Director Harley Usill. [?: Anyone think it's worth it to post a MP3 version of this? -FerraBit]

Thank you very very much.
Awesome, thanks FerraBit!!
I personally convert everything to .m4b anyway, so mp3 doesn't really matter to me.

"This is, hands down, the best of ALL audio versions of The Hobbit. It puts the full cast BBC version to shame because Williamson is a master storyteller and truly a master of voices.
He must have done a couple of dozen different character voices for this recording, and they're good --much "closer to Jackson" and, somewhat ironically, more authentic sounding than the BBC radio play performances."
