Please disregard twinkle123321's comment. The majority of the software DOES teach you about grammar and vocabulary. I'm half-way through and know how to construct (and understand) a variety of sentences. No, 40 chapters won't suffice in teaching you any language, but surely no one expects to be a linguistic savant after clicking your way through this one program on your computer? It's an excellent starting point, nevertheless. I feel like I've gotten a lot of ground work down already, and if it keeps this pace up, I might know enough to continue learning on my own afterwards (by reading Japanese things, watching Japanese movies, visiting Japanese sites, etc. -- just like how learned most of my English). If you download it here it'll cost you nothing, so at the very least give it a go. I don't think you'll regret it.
