They were better back in the cbs days
No no, 'NEW was the shit.
What happened to a higher bitrate? Sounds like underwater stereo.
At least go to 92kbps.
What prog do you use to encode?

The problem isn't the encoding per se, it's an extra analog stage. I have run into issue after issue concerning 128k ups - including some sort of hardware-level problem with the dedicated PC causing instability. Just when I think I'm good (it's stable for a few days) - BAM, I'm not. I'm currently looking into bringing back Yellowstone Steve's live O&A streamerp2p stream and it's gonna be one or the other, not both. I'm not gonna do the stream from my home so it's going to be tricky but I'm working on it.
Until then, you get what you get when you get it.

Thanks as always Goose. I pay for XM but this is way more convienient for me, and besides it's free, who cares if it sounds like stepped on vinyl. It's free.
I listen at work with headphones, it sounds purfeectly (jimmy) fine with me.
Goose, was giving credit too much trouble to go through to get a good sounding source? Is releasing this audible diarrhea your way of protest?
I never said you couldn't use it. Just credit the damn thing.

lovin goose is easy cus u beautiful~
It does matter, It's people like you taking good sources and making trash out of them that pollutes our pool of archives.
And just because it's only talk doesn't mean it should sound like AM radio.

Here's a link to the better file.

moustraw get your negativity out of here. No one wants to hear torrent wars. Go bitch at your forum with the other 6 kids complaining!
BOOO.

I didn't take anyone's source yesterday, that was all me. Todays will be much better. If your files are so great why aren't you encoding in mono which has been the norm for a few years now?
Months ago my friend says after the last MGS debacle, "why don't they just start posting them at tpb" - it was only a matter of time. Even if I didn't have a life and edited the show asap, you're still looking at a 45+ min wait because I refuse to seed from my location. If moustraw wants spew out his home / work IP address to everyone and their mother that's fine, but I'm not going to.
Guess I need to get that live stream up, lol....

Well of course, my grand plan went up in smoke. I would have already posted my own mono 64k rip+edit and in a hour or so a 128k rip but it looks like drive caching issues caused mild artifacts throughout. I had been recoding schwigger's aac rips to mono 64k but they've started going up later and faildozer has been quick on the draw so I started upping his stereo 64k rips. Like I said, I'm not gonna seed from where I'm editing so there's always gonna be that delay. I know I'm being a paranoid pete but I'm just covering my ass.
I'll have a mono recode up when it's done. For those interested, here's a bit of that 128k:

Of course, everything sounded fine last night.

goose rules and anyone who thinks otherwise can suck a dick. I lost O and A in rochester a couple months ago and this has been a lifesaver. Its the only thing that gets me through work. Please keep doing what you've been doing and thanks for all the hard work.
He just wants credit for his rips+edits it's not really an unreasonable request. There's been 4 or 5 different sources for my ups over the years and it can sometimes vary within the same week. I've tried my best to keep levels the same when they shift to keep things seamless.
For awhile I was tagging the file with the encoder (be it myself of someone else) and IIR schwigger wasn't happy about that so I stopped.

Fuck the haters, Goose.
ETA on today's show?

I don't know what issues causes that clicking 'arifact' other than low RAM/virtual.
If you do VBR, it may solve a bunch of issues while yielding greater sound Q. What your extra analog step is beyond me, and normally won't cause watery sounding artifacts-hiss maybe.
While this 'ain't the 'fill-har-monic', some stuff is in stereo, and the show is Hi-Fi off the bird.
How about ogg vorbis? jet audio makes a nice encoder, and it plays in winamp-oh, but it doesn't play on ipod-right?
If you were to put it up with commercials, I wouldn't give a shit.
You do start with.wav, right?
Lay out your whole system-I'm really curious.

I'm still not full digital, and I'm not going to be with this hardware apparently. For some reason the 44.1Khz out I'm getting from the XMPCR isn't liked by the Turtle Beach soundcard I've got. My amp likes it, CD recorder takes it, DAT deck takes it. Turtle Beach will not. I can feed optical out from a CD player, DAT deck, Xbox, etc. to the soundcard and it's fine - just not the XMPCR. And it's not the sampling rate because it'll take 48Khz just fine.
This one's got my really baffled - I go from the XMPCR into the DAT deck - I'm good. However the optical out passed through the DAT to the sound card is a no go. But if I record the source with the DAT and play it back, NOW the sound card accepts it. It's obviously something sync related but I've exhausted all avenues. I'm gonna need a Polk, or some other source I guess.
As for the clicking, it's a pretty low-end dedicated box (it shouldn't take much to rip wav) and I just set it up last night (again) so I might have missed a setting here or there. Yes, it starts wav and I'm using Replay AV which cuts it into chunks (for easy editing) and recodes to LAME mp3. Unfortunately I don't think VBR is an option with Replay AV but I can try some other software if need be. That's the least of my problems at this point.
I know mp3 is old and bloated but it plays in everything and is still the most compatible format. I'd consider a 64k and an ogg (or something else) for those interested.

I actually have the external USB Turtle Beach, it's a nice little device. And while I did think about SCMS copy protection, the DAT deck has a light that comes on indicating it's presence and it's not lit. I'll check out the software, thanks. From my research tonight it appears you're stuck with defaults in Replay AV (at least with LAME), no switches or anything. I figured not encoding live to mp3 would be advantageous quality-wise, but maybe it's just shit encoding software?
