Agree, 20th century wasn't all experimental nonsense. There's a lot of good music too.
nonsense? A bit too far, I'd say, and kinda close-minded if you ask me.
That being said, I do feel as though Copland, Gershwin, Bernstein, etc. are some of the finest examples of "American folk art music" as I like to call it. Basically they are to America what Liszt and Chopin were to their countries. And they are to music what F. Scott Fitzgerald was to literature.
That being said, I will not say that experimental music is "nonsense" just not in the same vein and should not be compared in any way.
