"Sound of Madness" is the third single by the rock band Shinedown from their 2008 album The Sound of Madness and is also the album's title track, despite the exclusion of the word "the" in the song's title. The song was chosen to be the title track after some road testing on a short run of dates. It was released on February 23, 2009 in Europe. As of June 20, 2009, the song has peaked at #1 on the Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks, making it their third straight single to reach the top spot on the chart. It also makes Shinedown the first band to ever have all of their first ten singles reach the top five on the Mainstream Rock Chart.

The Sound of Madness is the third studio album by American hard rock band Shinedown, released June 24, 2008. The album's lead single, "Devour", was released to radio on May 5, 2008.

The album's lyrics explore diverse subject matter as opposed to their previous albums; "Devour" ventures into political territory while "What a Shame" tells a story about lead singer Brent Smith's uncle, who died during the recording of the album. The song "If You Only Knew" is about Smith's wife (then-girlfriend) and newborn child.

Shinedown's tour to support the album subsequently started with the band playing a few festival shows before the release of The Sound of Madness.

Shinedown is an American rock band from Jacksonville, Florida, formed in 2001 by Brent Smith, Brad Stewart, Jasin Todd, and Barry Kerch. The band has released three albums on Atlantic Records. They have released popular singles such as "45", "Save Me", "Devour", "Sound of Madness", and "Second Chance". All of their ten singles released to date have climbed into the Top 5 of the Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart, making them the first band to accomplish the feat.

To date, Shinedown has sold over six million albums worldwide.
