https://www.collisionmovie.com/ SYNOPSIS -------- COLLISION carves a new path in documentary film-making as it pits leading atheist, political journalist and bestselling author Christopher Hitchens against fellow author, satirist and evangelical theologian Douglas Wilson, as they go on the road to exchange blows over the question: "Is Christianity Good for the World?". The two contrarians laugh, confide and argue, in public and in private, as they journey through three cities. And the film captures it all. The result is a magnetic conflict, a character-driven narrative that sparkles cinematically with a perfect match of arresting personalities and intellectual rivalry. COLLISION is directed by prolific independent filmmaker Darren Doane (Van Morrison: To Be Born Again, The Battle For L.A., Godmoney). OVERVIEW -------- In May 2007, leading atheist Christopher Hitchens and Christian apologist Douglas Wilson began to argue the topic “Is Christianity Good for the World?†in a series of written exchanges published in Christianity Today. The rowdy literary bout piqued the interest of filmmaker Darren Doane, who sought out Hitchens and Wilson to pitch the idea of making a film around the debate. In Fall 2008, Doane and crew accompanied Hitchens and Wilson on an east coast tour to promote the book compiled from their written debate titled creatively enough, Is Christianity Good for the World?. “I loved the idea of putting one of the beltway’s most respected public intellectuals together with an ultra-conservative pastor from Idaho that looks like a lumberjackâ€, says Doane. “You couldn’t write two characters more contrary. What’s more real than a fight between two guys who are on complete opposite sides of the fence on the most divisive issue in the world? We were ready to make a movie about two intellectual warriors at the top of their game going one-on-one. I knew it would make an amazing film.†In Christopher Hitchens, Doane found a celebrated prophet of atheism. Loud. Funny. Angry. Smart. Quick. An intimidating intellectual Goliath. Well-known for bullying and mocking believers into doubt and doubters into outright unbelief. In Douglas Wilson, Doane found the man who could provide a perfect intellectual, philosophical, and cinematic counterpoint to Hitchens' position and style. A trained philosopher and and deft debater. Big, bearded, and jolly. A pastor, a contrarian, a humorist--an unintimidated outsider, impossible to bully, capable of calling Hitchens a puritan (over a beer). It was a collision of lives. What Doane didn’t expect was how much Hitchens and Wilson would have in common and the respectful bond the new friend/foes would build through the course of the book tour. “These guys ended up at the bar laughing, joking, drinking. There were so many things that they had in commonâ€, according to Doane. “Opinions on history and politics. Literature and poetry. They agreed on so many things. Except on the existence of God.†BIOS ---- Christopher Hitchens (b. April 13, 1949) is a popular political journalist and the author of several books, including “God Is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everythingâ€. Hitchens is regarded as one of the most fundamental figures of modern atheism. A regular contributor to Vanity Fair, The Atlantic Monthly and Slate, Hitchens also appears regularly on The Daily Show, Charlie Rose, Washington Journal, and Real Time with Bill Maher. He was named one of the US’s "25 Most Influential Liberals†by Forbes and one of the world’s “Top 100 Public Intellectuals†by Foreign Policy. Hitchens lives in Washington, DC. Douglas Wilson (b. June 18, 1953) is a pastor of Christ Church, editor of Credenda/Agenda magazine, and a Senior Fellow at New Saint Andrews College. A prolific writer, he is the author of many books, including The Case for Classical Christian Education, Letter from a Christian Citizen, Reforming Marriage and Heaven Misplaced: Christ’s Kingdom on Earth. Wilson lives in Moscow, Idaho. Darren Doane is a Los Angeles-based independent filmmaker. Doane made his name as a music video director. His work for Blink-182, AFI, Jimmy Eat World and Pennywise is credited for helping bring punk rock into the mainstream in the 1990s. His previous documentary film, The Battle For LA, explored the underground battle rap scene in Los Angeles. Doane is currently in production on the documentary film To Be Born Again about legendary musician Van Morrison and has also written and directed several feature films, including Godmoney, 42K and Black Friday. The one yesterday just had a different file extension (m4v) for some reason, but still played fine. I went ahead and added all those trackers to the torrent file. Thanks for the heads up.
Thanks for the upload. I downloaded the other one which works fine btw, you just remove the _ from the extension. Now to watch!
It's real but the other one had a funny extension. You simply had to remove the dash from the extension. I believe this one is normal though so needs no editing. If you get the one with ".m4v_" just change the extension to .mp4
On a side note, this was an intriguing debate despite the fact that the director is a known Christian and has a hard time hiding that fact in the editing room. Still, Hitchens intellectually punishes the poor pastor for most of the DVD, while the pastor seems content with arguing about arguments, semantics etc.
Pastor Wilson gives a valiant effort to shoehorn in his primitive superstition with the credibility of modern discourse, but falls flat in the face of Hitchen's overwhelming polemics, and the sea of contradiction and flaw religion is lost in.

Sadly, the other funky version is still up (when I tried to delete it, it switched to Anonymous uploader).

Any change uploader or someone who has the file can upload another copy as a regular xvid in an avi container?
I'd really like to be able to watch this on my media centre... but I can't play this format.
(or if somoene can tell me an idiot proof way to convert it, that would be just as good)
thanks

Thanks for the upload! This is one that I wanted to see when it was showing at a local theater, but I missed it.
The mkv file plays just fine; that's not an issue. There's an interlace problem, though... whoever ripped it didn't de-interlace properly. Still, this isn't really a visually driven movie, and I will probably buy a copy when I can anyway.

Thank you for the upload but please don't use MKV files. They suck ass. MKV's are the gift coupons of the video world; you turn a perfectly good video file, an avi usable anywhere, into a crappy file usable virtually nowhere.
Just finished watching this. The theist slant is VERY evident in the editing for instance there is a lot of the christian guy asking a question or making a statement and then you see Christopher open his mouth to answer and they cut him off.
Even so Hitchens wins. On every count. The times when they cut off Christopher with editing you're left thinking, "Wow, that was the most illogical argument I've ever heard." Like when they guys said, "There is beauty because without God there could be no beauty therefore God exists because without him there could be no beauty." Really? Really? You just said that and your head didn't explode?

I felt that all of Douglas Wilson's arguements was based on nothing and circular. I wonder whether a christian watching this feels the same way about Christopher Hitchens.
To all the ppl having problems with the video-format: Time to catch up ppl. Do you really think you can keep avoiding the brilliant .Mkv format? It can do so many, many things that avi just can't
This is the ONLY Christian/Atheist debate I've ever seen where I think the Christian won.
Esmad3: Hitchens argument isn't circular, it's incoherent. In a purely physical/biological world there can be no such thing as good/evil (which is Wilson's argument)
The atheist/materialist may think there is good and evil but if brain function is only neural impulses and chemical reactions - on what basis is he basing this "evil" or "good"?? It's all conditioning - and has no real foundation.
In the end it becomes a worldview question - which no debate will ever resolve. If there is no God (as Hitchens thinks) - there is no evil - therefore the question under debate is incoherent to Hitchens - and unanswerable. Hitchens THINKS he can answer it, and by trying - he fails.

@nowimcool
"Evil" and "Good" are simply labels that humans use to describe various human behaviors. We identify and label positive or negative behavior, intent, etc as "good" or "bad"; does such and such behavior or intent harm or help the group? and so on.
We are social animals that need to work together for the survival of the species. This social behavior, with notions of fairness, justice, etc can be observed among other hominids as well.
Christian apologists seem to want this to be needlessly complicated or mysterious in some way. The idea that gods or a "soul" are required in order to even *discuss* whether something is "good" or "bad" for the species or the planet is utterly absurd.
