Manufacturing and Industrial Engineering have been the two most significant streams of engineering that underpinned industrial revolutions and largely contributed towards economic growth. Research, developments and innovations are the essential activities that lay the foundation of technological evolution. In both manufacturing and industrial engineering, conventional practices, processes and techniques are currently being replaced by their modern and advanced versions in order to meet the productivity, safety, quality and sustainability requirements.
This book provides a basic theoretical understanding and discussion of technological advancements in some of the vital topics of manufacturing and industrial engineering. It comprehensively covers working principles, technical details, process mechanisms, reviews of literature, salient features, case studies, research results, current advan- cements and future directions.
This book consists of a total of 16 selected chapters on theoretical and advanced technologies in manufacturing and industrial engineering. It starts with Chapter 1 by providing an overview of the role of Cloud Manufacturing in modern industries. Chapter 2 sheds light on the modern combination of composite materials using bonding and cladding. Chapter 3 discusses green manufacturing basics and recent developments. Chapter 4 presents a systematic review of various additive manufacturing techniques. Post-processing of engineered parts and components made by additive manufacturing is detailed in Chapter 5. Chapter 6 reports the fabrication of composites by stir casting method along with a further study on its microstructure and mechanical and corrosion behaviour. Intelligent fault diagnosis of roller bearings is examined in Chapter 7. Finite element analysis based-sheet metal quality improvement is detailed in Chapter 8. Chapter 9 provides an analysis of human bone and biomaterials for bone implantation. The implementation and effectiveness of hybrid optimisation in case of supply chain management is investigated in Chapter 10. Advanced design and manufacturing of car door panels are examined in Chapter 11. Chapter 12 considers the manufacturing of modern composites using banana fibre along with the latest research in this area. Chapter 13 focuses on post-processing and corrosion behaviours of parts made by metal additive manufacturing. Nonlinear control strategies in electrohydraulic actuator systems and relevant past work are further discussed in Chapter 14. Chapter 15 reports the results of experimental work conducted on the evaluation of mechanical properties of photopolymer structures fabricated by scan-based microstereolithography. Finally, Chapter 16 concentrates on the various aspects of computer integrated manufacturing.
We hope that this book will be beneficial to researchers, scholars, professors, technical experts and specialists working in the area of mechanical, manufacturing and industrial engineering. We sincerely acknowledge CRC Press for this opportunity and their professional support. Finally, we would like to thank all contributors for their time and efforts
