"Mr. Brightside" is a song performed by Las Vegas-based rock band The Killers. The song is featured on the group's debut album Hot Fuss and was written by Brandon Flowers and Dave Keuning , a demo of the song is also featured on The Killers first Demo EP

The song was named 'Song of the Decade' by UK radio stations Absolute Radio and XFM.

"Mr. Brightside" has reached number one in the charts of various countries. It was a number 10 hit on both the Billboard Hot 100 and the Official UK Singles Chart. The song was also nominated for a Grammy in 2006 for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal, but it lost to a live version of "This Love" by Maroon 5.

"Mr. Brightside" entered the Billboard Hot 100 ranked #40 on February 12, 2005, and peaked at #10 on June 11., thus making it a sleeper hit.

In June 2004, "Mr.Brightside" peaked at Number 10 on the UK Singles Chart and has since become one of the longest chart sitters in the 21st Century spending a total of "69 weeks in the UK Top 100". Its last appearance was in January 2010 , 6 years after its original UK release.

In the 2005 year-end rankings from Billboard, "Mr. Brightside" ranked 16th.

In Australia, the song was ranked #13 on Triple J's Hottest 100 of 2004, and #38 on Triple J's Hottest 100 of All Time

In 2009 it was voted at Number 2 in UK radio station XFM's 100 Greatest Songs Of All Time and later that year was voted XFM's Greatest Song Of The Decade. 

On December 9 , 2009 it was again voted Song Of The Decade this time by another UK station Absolute Radio.

Hot Fuss is the debut studio album by American alternative rock band The Killers, released on June 15, 2004. The album reached top of the album charts in both the United Kingdom and Australia, and stayed in the Top 50 of the Billboard 200 chart for over fifty weeks. Singles from the album include "Somebody Told Me", "Mr. Brightside", "All These Things That I've Done" and "Smile Like You Mean It". Since being nominated for five Grammy Awards, it has achieved worldwide sales of more than 7 million units.

There are 2 videos for this song: the UK version is the original version and was The Killers first video; due to the fact that the band were on an independent record label the video was done with a low budget and was consequently very basic. When they were signed by Island Records in the US the band decided to film a higher budget video: the American video for this song stars Flowers, Izabella Miko, and Eric Roberts in a love triangle, taking place within the context of a burlesque show. Directed by Sophie Muller, it was inspired by the 2001 film Moulin Rouge!.

The American version won a MTV VMA in 2004 for Best Rock Video.
