Debiutancki album Pati Yang jest dowodem na to, że gdyby członkowie The Beatles czy The Rolling Stones urodzili się w Polsce, świat o tych zespołach miałby szansę nie usłyszeć.

Młoda artystka nagrała bardzo świeży i oryginalny album, który został dobrze przyjęty przez krytyków i słuchaczy, z tym że ta druga grupa nie była zbyt liczna. I to nie dlatego, że Polacy nie byli gotowi na muzykę, którą proponowała Pati. To chyba wina wytwórni fonograficznej. Z resztą po latach Pati Yang w wywiadzie dla TV4 powiedziała:

„Jaszczurka była rzeczywiście bardzo mile odebrana, przez słuchaczy, przez krytyków i o było fantastyczne na tamten czas, natomiast nie ukrywam, że wytwórnia wcale nie była tego samego zdania, ówczesna wytwórnia z którą byłam związana i sprawiała mi strasznie dużo kłopotu w związku z tym. Oni mieli zupełnie inną wizję na to kim ja mam być, a ja miałam swoją własną wizję na to kim chciałam być. I niestety te nasze wizje były kompletnie rozbieżne.” – mówi artystka.

„Jaszczurka” to 11 utworów utrzymanych w stylistyce trip hopowej, utworów trzymających wysoki, światowy poziom. Sama artystka przyznała, że jej inspiracje to Massie Attack i Tricky. Trochę to słuchać, ale właściwie bardziej chodzi o klimat niż konkretne rozwiązania. Inna sprawa, że gdyby taka np. „Jaszczurka” w wersji angielskiej znalazła się na albumie któregoś z zachodnich wykonawców mielibyśmy pewnie do czynienia ze światowym hitem. I to jednym z tych, które na stałe wpisują się do kanonu gatunku. Z resztą to samo można powiedzieć o innych utworach, choćby „Underlegend” czy „Aooh”.

Na albumie „Jaszczurka” nie ma grzecznych, poukładanych piosenek. Jest tu natomiast dużo emocji, połamanych dźwięków, niepokoju zarówno w warstwie muzycznej jak i tekstowej. Są świetne klimatyczne kompozycje i doskonały głos Pati Yang, która już wtedy (jako nastolatka) była profesjonalną wokalistką. W zasadzie całość utrzymana jest w klimacie trip hopu, ale nie brakuje zaskakujących momentów. Jak choćby w „Może zapomni” utworze który muzycznie wpisuje się w konwencję jazzu (choć i elektroniki tu nie brakuje).

Po wydaniu debiutanckiego albumu, Pati Yang wyjechała do Londynu. Początkowo miała tam spędzić 3-4 tygodnie. Została. I choć na długo polska muzyka pozostała uboższa o wyjątkowy talent Pati to dla niej samej i jej kariery kierunek brytyjski okazał się jak najbardziej słuszny. I słuchać to na kolejnym albumie.

Pati Yang's debut album is proof that if members of The Beatles and The Rolling Stones were born in Poland, the world on these teams would have a chance not to hear.

"Lizard" is 11 pieces in style trip hop tracks holding high the global level. She herself admitted that her inspiration is Massie Attack and Tricky. A bit of a listen, but actually is more about atmosphere than a specific solution. Another thing, for example, that if such a "lizard" in the English version of the album was one of the Western artists probably would have to deal with the global hit. And it is one of those permanent part of the canon of the genre. With the rest the same can be said of other works, even "Underlegend" or "Aooh.

The album "Lizard" is not polite, organized as songs. There is however a lot of emotions, broken sounds, both in terms of anxiety in music and text. Compositions are great climate and perfect voice Pati Yang, who had already (as a teenager) was a professional singer. In fact, the whole atmosphere is maintained in a trip-hop, but there is no shortage of surprising moments. Like for example in the "can forget" the song which musically is part of a convention of jazz (although there is no shortage of electronics).

After the release of their debut album, Pati Yang went to London. Initially, there had to spend 3-4 weeks. Was. And though Polish music long remained a poorer Pati is an exceptional talent for her and her career direction as the British proved to be the most correct. I listen to it on the next album.
