The Aurum Film Encyclopedia: Science Fiction by Phil Hardy PDF

The science fiction genre has offered fertile ground for film-makers since the late nineteenth century, giving us everything from forgettable nonsense like Astro Zombies and I Married a Monster from Outer Space to some of the greatest films ever made: 2001: A Space Odyssey, Fritz Lang's Metropolis, the classic horror/SF movies of the thirties, and more. This volume of The Aurum Film Encyclopedia offers plot summaries and full statistical information on over 1,200 science fiction films, from the pioneering efforts of Georges Melies to E.T., The Return of the Jedi, and beyond. It is the first book on the subject to be fully international in scope, containing films not only from North America and Western Europe, but also from Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, Australia, Russia and Eastern Europe. Science Fiction includes lists of the top-grossing films, all Oscar winners, the favourite films of both critics and science fiction writers, plus a list of the winners of the Trieste Festival of Science Fiction Films. With over 450 black and white stills and 16 pages of colour plates, this spectacular volume will take its place next to The Western as the most thorough catalogue of its genre ever published.
