Genre: Progressive Rock / Hard rock Country: USA Year of release: 1972 Audio codec: MP3 Rip type: tracks Audio bitrate: 320 kbps Duration: 00.41.10 The founders of Edgewood were members of the last lineup of the Memphis band The Gentrys: David Beaver, Steve Spear and Jim Tarbutton. In 1970, David Mayo, Pat Taylor and Joel Williams, who replaced Mike Bleecker on drums, joined the group. The group took a new name after the street where Taylor lived. For several months before signing a contract with the small Memphis label TMI, the guys created their own material, rehearsed a lot and performed in local clubs. The musicians’ “Ship Of Labor” contained both long and complex songs with a progressive slant, as well as commercial hits that were well suited for FM radio. Critics compared their work to the work of Ambrosia and even Kansas, especially noting the harmonious singing of three excellent vocalists – Beaver, Mayo and Taylor. Over the next year, Edgewood remained TMI's house band, continuing to play clubs and opening for every major act in Memphis, from Jeff Beck to Deep Purple. They also recorded material for a follow-up album, which was never released. Due to financial problems, the band announced its disbandment in late 1972.
