The action of Downward: Enhanced Edition takes place a thousand years after the biblical apocalypse that occurred in the Middle Ages. Although a few managed to survive the destruction, they did not manage to rebuild their former civilization; to make matters worse, the world is still plagued by deadly disasters. The main character of the game is a pilgrim traveling through a ruined world in search of a legendary artifact that can restore balance to the destroyed planet.

In Downward: Enhanced Edition we watch the action from a first-person perspective (FPP). The adventure takes place in an open world consisting of various locations, such as the ruins of ancient buildings, huge canyons and gloomy undergrounds, as well as places where the laws of physics break and large boulders float freely in the air.

While traversing it, our pilgrim uses his parkour skills, which allow him to efficiently overcome terrain obstacles, slide on sloping surfaces or use the zip line. The hero can also, among other things, grab onto special points using an energy beam. In addition, from time to time the pilgrim must face opponents - powerful guards who stand in his way.

The driving force of the game are the tasks waiting to be completed, and the path we take along the way affects the way the entire story ends. As we progress, we gain experience that is used to improve our character's statistics and powers, as well as collect useful items and hidden treasures.

Downward: Enhanced Edition runs on the Unreal Engine.
