**************************************************************************** The Hobbit An Unexpected Journey 2012 ******************************************************************************* ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- General Information ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Type.................: Movie Compression Format...: MKV Video Format.........: H264 Resolution...........: 1920x800 Source...............: Hi10p Genre................: Action IMDb Rating..........: 8,2 Movie Information....: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0903624/ CD1 Size.............: 2.06 GB ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Post Information ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Posted by............: Achajr ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Release Notes ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For those unaware, the current encodes contain "only" 8bits per color channel, generating the known 16 Million colors. That's a lot, but looking at each channel separately, we have only 256 shades for each color. In video compression that can cause problems, and the best known of them is the banding. Basically, Hi10p is a profile of the pattern that uses H264 10 bits of information to represent color. Thus, it is possible to store 1024 colors per channel (against the aforementioned color 8bits 256). This yields a total of at +1 billion colors. What does this mean? Simply decrease the banding, better colors and smaller sizes (since there is no need to base dithering noise) in YUV video files. Of course, not every player that can play videos of 10 bit color. We recommend using VLC (VideoLAN) or KMPlayer latest that has native support for 10 bit, or installing codecs to ensure color support 10-bit ..
