Thanks. Simple but worth reading. We can indeed live more simple, intelligent and satisfying lives if we just have the courage to step out of the insanity dished up for us, educate each other and work together.

It is encouraging that someone is at least thinking about these things in a logical and rational way.
@privateer2day thank you for your nice comment, I'm glad you enjoyed my short read =)
Basically a commune or co-op....

...I have 40 acres but I already have plans to start a crackpot religion and sex cult, LOL.

Seriously though, I have no intention of going backwards although it is useful to know the old ways of doing things.

Fish are not going to be practical on most 10 acre plots for more than lightly supplemental protein unless you have a large flow of fresh water to concentrate the amount of fish you can grow. However there is decent fishing in public waters in most areas, even urban areas, and you'd be surprised at the places you can get crawdads. However a modest pond will allow you to store fish (especially catfish) caught elsewhere to minimize the need for refrigeration.

Vegetable gardening is another story as that size plot would allow for plenty of veg with surpluses for canning and even to sell.... in the right area you might even be able to sell on a regular basis to certain stores and restaurants.

Small livestock are also practical. Chickens eat everything that you would normally put down a garbage disposal and also make great pest control around the house. Rabbits are also practical as are a limited number of hogs or goats on a plot that size. You can dumpster-dive to supplement feed for all these animals and if you have the time, access and transportation, feed them totally on "found" resources.
