Assif Tsahar / Cooper-Moore / Hamid Drake Lost Brother 2005 - Hopscotch Records: HOP 33 http://www.hopscotchrecords.com/catalog.html * Assif Tsahar: tenor saxophone, bass clarinet * Cooper-Moore: ashimba, twanger, diddley-bow * Hamid Drake: drum set, tablas, frame drum http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assif_Tsahar http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cooper-Moore http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamid_Drake Recorded by Assif Tsahar on September 2005. Reviews ~~~~~~~ by Scott Yanow http://www.allmusic.com/album/lost-brother-mw0001029383 The trio of tenor saxophonist Assif Tsahar (who doubles on bass clarinet), Moore-Cooper (listed as playing diddley-bow, twanger, and ashimba, all of which sound suspiciously like a string bass), and drummer Hamid Drake communicate well on this set of nine free improvisations. Tsahar has a huge tone and even when the music is at its freest, his passionate sound is attractive. Moore-Cooper and Hamid Drake listen closely and react immediately to Tsahar's ideas, often inspiring the tenorman to follow their musical directions; this is very much a three-way conversation. Listeners are advised to ignore the rather ugly cover drawing of Lost Brother and enjoy the powerful and often-intense music. -- By Derek Taylor http://www.dustedmagazine.com/reviews/2637 By Dr. Ana Isabel Ordonez http://www.jazzreview.com/index.php/reviews/latest-cd-reviews/item/23669- By Eyal Hareuveni http://www.allaboutjazz.com/php/article.php?id=20534 di Vincenzo Roggero (it) http://italia.allaboutjazz.com/php/article.php?id=529
