Biography

In 1954 she graduated from high school in Lviv. In 1955 entered the VGIK (workshop of Alexander Dovzhenko, after his death in 1956 - Workshop ME Chiaureli). As a student, she starred in several films as an actress, including in the "Poem of the Sea" (1958) launched APDovjenko and completed by his wife, Julia Solntseva.

The first feature film - thesis "Heat" (1963), based on the novel by Chingiz Aitmatov "Camel's Eye" - filmed in Kyrgyzstan, where shortly before it was reorganized Studio documentary feature films, received in 1961 the name "Kirghizfilm." At the stage of montage Larissa Shepitko helped Elem Klimov, while also a student fighting positions. In 1963 they become husband and wife (their only son Anton was born in 1973). And the movie "Heat" was awarded the prize for debut at the International Film Festival in Karlovy Vary (1964).

Larissa Shepitko fame brought her second film "Wings" (1966), about the fate of post-war fighter pilot Natalia PETRUKHIN - one of his best roles in this film played Maya Bulgakov, recognized in 1966 "best actress".

The next film - "Homeland electricity" on the story by Andrei Platonov - was filmed in the village Seroglazka Astrakhan region, and in the film were employed and many non-professional actors, the residents of the village. The film with the novels "Angel" by A. Smirnov and "Motrya" GS Gabai was to enter the film almanac "The Beginning of unknown age," which the studio "Mosfilm" preparing for the 50th anniversary of the October Revolution. In 1974, Larissa Shepitko was awarded the title of Honored Artist of the RSFSR.

Soon begin shooting the film "Ascent" on the novel by Vasil Bykov, "Sotnikov". In this film, the first big role brilliantly played by young actors Boris Plotnikov, Vladimir Gostyukhin. Larissa was a mystic - believed that she lived several times already. In 1978, while in Bulgaria, visited the famous Wang, she predicted the impending death. Hearing this, Larissa in the day with her friend went to the temple and made her vow that if she dies, it will be a friend to take care of her son Anton. [2]

After that, the director is preparing a film script of "matter" by Valentin Rasputin's novel "Farewell to the mothers." Filming was to be held at Lake Seliger, and the beginning of June 1979 there had been planned kinoekspeditsii.

Early in the morning of July 2, 1979 Cine Cameras "Volga" pick-up on a deserted highway for an unknown reason, went into oncoming traffic and crashed into a rushing toward the truck. On the 137th kilometer of the Leningrad highway in the direction of Tver, near the village of Redkino, ended the life of Larissa Shepitko and crew (in the car were also cameraman Vladimir Chukhnov, artist Yuri Fomenko and their assistants).

Work on the film "Matera" concluded the husband of Larisa Shepitko, film director Elem Klimov, who called the film "Farewell" (1982). He also directed a documentary about her "Larissa" (1980), assembled from fragments of her films and interviews with her colleagues.

She was buried at Larissa Shepitko Kuntsevsky cemetery.
