Notice how AI road traffic can be 100% with little hit on the frame rates. AI road traffic killed frame rates in FSX. It has some glitches, but defiantly a step in the right direction. Quiet a leap from v1.4 using the GPU to do some of the CPU work.
It was the best way to push the legacy FS engine forward. If they can sort out compatibility with legacy add-on software, I'll be buying it on release.

Bungunners, don't shit your pants just yet, yes i agree we are all excited about this, and i believe this will be platform that most will gravitate towards, given its position with regards compatibility with FSX etc, it seems hit and miss whether some stuff will work, NGX doesn't appear to work in V2, so i dont expect any pmdg to work which is a shame, a2a 172 does in addition to the planes you mention. I've found some planes lose the dash but their guages are still there. It is much more fluid compared to fsx but it can still chop a little if you go past 100% gpu usage at large airport etc. If this becomes 64bit and adds oculus rift, it will be fucking awesome, oculus rift will shit all over track-ir, also they are planning multi-gpu support for 2+ it might be v2.1. I'm also looking forward to Nvidia G-sync monitor tech as this will improve the smoothing visual without tearing and the need for v-sync control. Good times ahead, keep the community ticking over, be nice to get an updated beta, since V2 must be very close to official release, you are right worth the money for the academic licence.
@jizzlober haha.. funny you said those things because I was coming back here to say I was wrong...DEAD WRONG. The program has some new functions and that is nice, but the little problems that it has here and there, really aren't so little. In my V35B I cant click stuff sometimes, and it has to do with that fucked up wannabe full screen mode they have. I'll try and turn on the gps and move the dials and it just wont do it, and I've noticed the terrain is back to the blurries again, and ORBX doensn't work right, and basically every single plane has one issue or another. I went ahead and reinstalled from scratch, and I'm wondering why I even did that for a beta. This thing is still fucked and worse than 1.4 in functionality. The new features are promising and hopefully they iron out the issues when 2.0 is released. Otherwise the new functions would be pretty useless. Like putting sugar on a steaming pile of dog shit. Fuck this program, and if I could do it over again, I wouldn't fuck up my working sim with this piece of shit. If I was just going to play the sim with no addon planes or terrain, then it would probably work out great. This version doesn't play nice with most of my addon stuff, and it's no surprise that people are having unsolvable issues with NGX. Opus not switching cams, A2A Stratocruiser, no engine sounds, ORBX global showing black squares everywhere, Rex waves, water, runways, not showing, no internal lights at night in some planes..on and on..
I uninstalled it in the end. Too many issues, looks promising though. I'm wondering if MS will claim it back and push it as FSXI on an entertainment license.
They could pull the old FSX -- Vista trick, claiming it runs better under "Vista" FSXI in this case, would be optimized to run under Windows 8.1 DirectX 11.
I can't imagine MS will allow potential lost revenue though sales of Prepar3D v2.0 if the majority of individuals currently running FSX hear than they can get better performance under Prepar3D v2.0.
MS Flight was a disaster... this well... from a MS perspective they've had to done nothing, just charge $50 for it.

@udidwht
that lnk is discussion about if pmdg stuff is 'allowed' to be installed or not. Here we are concerned about if ngx will work in v2 like it does in v1.4
