"You're hearing the hits as we count down to a brand new number one this week. This is part three of AT40, I'm Casey and the countdown rolls on." American Top 40 with Casey Kasem aired on radio from July 4, 1970 until August 6, 1988. This is a recording of a rebroadcast from internet radio. In this broadcast: Casey tells us about the town of Nutbush, a town so small that it isn't on the map and doesn't have a mayor (but it has a song about it at number 38 by Ike & Tina Turner). He also tells the story of how once, when tickets for a show by Sonny and Cher went on sale, 80,000 fans tied up the phone lines from to Lake Tahoe, from the Pacific Ocean to the Missouri River trying to get seats. Jim Croce has the highest debuting song of the week ("Time In A Bottle" at number 18). This is the first time an artist posthumously ever had two records in the top 20 at the same time. A listener writes in to inform Casey that AT40 was in an Al Pachino movie! The AT40 staff knew all about it, and Casey tells the story. 40: Sweet Understanding Love - The Four Tops 39: Ramblin' Man - Allman Brothers Band 38: Nutbush City Limits - Ike & Tina Turner 37: We May Never Pass This Way (Again) - Seals & Crofts 36: D'yer Mak'er - Led Zeppelin 35: Half-Breed - Cher 34: Be - Neil Diamond 33: Show And Tell - Al Wilson 32: Who's In The Strawberry Patch With Sally - Tony Orlando And Dawn 31: Why Me - Kris Kristofferson 30: Mind Games - John Lennon 29: Living For The City - Stevie Wonder 28: Ooh Baby - Gilbert O' Sullivan 27: Knockin' On Heaven's Door - Bob Dylan 26: My Music - Loggins & Messina 25: Come Get To This - Marvin Gaye 24: Rockin' Roll Baby - The Stylistics 23: All I Know - Garfunkel 22: The Joker - The Steve Miller Band 21: You're A Special Part Of Me - Diana Ross & Marvin Gaye 20: Never, Never Gonna Give You Up - Barry White 19: Angie - The Rolling Stones 18: Time In A Bottle - Jim Croce 17: Let Me Serenade You - Three Dog Night 16: I Got A Name - Jim Croce 15: Cheaper To Keep Her - Johnnie Taylor 14: If You're Ready Come Go With Me - The Staple Singers 13: Leave Me Alone (Ruby Red Dress) - Helen Reddy 12: Paper Roses - Marie Osmond 11: Hello It's Me - Todd Rundgren 10: The Most Beautiful Girl - Charlie Rich 9: Heartbeat-It's A Love Beat - The DiFranco Family 8: The Love I Lost (Part 1) - Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes 7: Midnight Train To Georgia - Gladys Knight & The Pips 6: Just You 'N' Me - Chicago 5: Keep On Truckin' - Eddie Kendricks 4: Space Race - Billy Preston 3: Goodbye Yellow Brick Road - Elton John 2: Photograph - Ringo Starr 1: Top Of The World - The Carpenters

As a professional Radio Staion Personality (Or Air Talent), I have worked onn and off the air working in New York in the 60's, Philadelphia in the 70's 80's and 90's and several major Networks producing several Radio programs and Special. I say not goodbye but til next we meet. I have physically met this giant of a voice talent working on some of his shows and often times at special benefit.. His signature Sine-off: "Keep your feet on the ground, and keep reaching for the stars."... Yep, he finally made it.,, Sleep well my friend
