hm, these details clarify film aspect ratio at 1.85:1
yet any middle school math student could tell you a 1920x1080 file always has an aspect ratio of 1.78:1
i assume you leave black bars in the encode then? sounds pointless to me.
not to mention when you get into films with an aspect ratio of 2.35:1 .. yet a 1920x1080 file still maintains it's 1.78:1 ratio. think of all that part of the encode being wasted.
this is what some of the commentors were trying to tell you, and why the scene crops out black bars. because it is a good idea to do so... and doesn't crop out ANY part of the actual film, at all.
important thing to take from this is a 1920x1080p video file ALWAYS has an aspect ratio of 1.78:1 , so if you are dealing with a film or television show with a different aspect ratio there will be wasted space in the encode. it's not rocket science.

vonRicht, I remember you had a link to a website that explains why film's aspect ration should not be cropped. Perhaps you could add that link to every torrent to help who knows how to read to understand the obvious.
@mfaze1977:
Yes I'll put up the links again.
@shirepirate:
Please learn about aspect ratio before you speak. It just makes you look very foolish.
And you for sure do not want to look just as idiotic and unintelligent as Qurasawae!
Read the links:
https://www.widescreen.org/index.shtml

we can now easily see it is the uploader who is plainly confused and clueless when it comes to aspect ratios.. (ironic when he links all these sites that explain it so well!), although i highly suspect it has more to do with the fact that he would rather not admit the truth.
and that's ok, you can only try to educate someone on these matters. if they won't accept it it's their problem after that. however, if any downloader is wondering why these Grym rips appear on average to be so large, it's because there is a lot of wasted space in the encode.
no-one's asking vonRicht to take my word for it.. just take a look at practically any well-seeded HD encode on this website and it becomes clear why cropping black bars is harmless and beneficial :/
btw, if it should interest the uploader i'd be happy to continue this conversation so that he might better understand

Yes 1920x1080 equals 1.78:1. That's correct.
But we are talking about FILM CAMERA aspect ratio. Not Digital TV Camera aspect ratio. Read the links again (I doubt you have the brain for understanding it, but give it a try anyway, mate - it can only be better for you)
You are not telling me anything I don't know, Noob.
It's amazing so many idiots that's around! And in all seriousness writes completely wrong things! :(
Incredible!
@guysmilie:
Thanks I will, mate! :)
I'm actually quite amazed that there are so many fools who writes about aspect ratio without checking if it's correct what they are saying.
Oh wait, that's the definition of a fool, is it not?! :D
Anyway I've decided to keep my mouth shut when the next noob show he's face with the line:
The black bars is not suppose to be there or something noobish around those lines.
I simply do not have the patience or time with/for aspect ratio fools! They can read the NFO. All the information is in there!
Hahaha
