"From the rocky coast of Maine to the sandy shores of Hawaii, you hear the nation,s top hits every week at this time on AT40."

American Top 40 with Casey Kasem aired on radio from July 4, 1970 until August 6, 1988. This recording is a rebroadcast from internet radio.

In this countdown:

Casey answers the question, "Were Sonny and Cher the first husband and wife team ever to hit number one?" Casey says no. The first couple to do it, did it twice, but not in the rock era.

A listener wants to know if any white artists have ever hit number one on the soul chart. Casey says it has happened 23 times.

Casey plays a track from the number one album of the week, "Santana" by Santana.

There is a song by a four man group who were once entirely replaced in the middle of a recording session by just one man.

Casey gives details of the great poster hoax of 1971: How a popular poem supposedly written in 1692 became a big hit single, and then turned out to actually have been written in 1906.

As a professional Radio Staion Personality (Or Air Talent), I have worked onn and off the air working in New York in the 60's, Philadelphia in the 70's 80's and 90's and several major Networks producing several Radio programs and Special. I say not goodbye but til next we meet. I have physically met this giant of a voice talent working on some of his shows and often times at special benefit.. His signature Sine-off: "Keep your feet on the ground, and keep reaching for the stars."... Yep, he finally made it.,, Sleep well my friend
