Because they're smarter than you. My new 2014 60" HDTV doesn't play those random formats. That's why we like standard formats like mp4, avi, mkv, etc. I already KNOW how to watch them on my computer with VLC media player, but still can't watch them on my terabyte and HDTV.

Download Bigasoft Total Video Converter (on PBay), learn how to use it, then convert to whatever format you want in an instant, a kid could do it and it's fast.

Also, my bigscreen TV doesn't recognise M4V so I simply change the file extension to MP4 and it works. You are getting all this stuff for FREE so so some appreciation and stop want everyone to hold your hand for you !!

I too am not overly fond of this format. While I am an old fuck, I am an up to date old fuck with modern toys. I had a problem with this format and .mkv files being jerky to the point of acting like claymation with some movies.

I was using a laptop with a 2.2 GHz processor and it just didn't like those 2 formats when attached to my TV.

I bought a new computer with a 3.6 GHz quad core and threw in 10 TB of external storage. I'm a rich old fuck now that the kids are grown and gone. I finally bought myself some nice xmas presents. Sure, I've got grand kids to spoil, but that is a different story.

Anyway, figured I'd build myself a retirement project and let it streams to my 60". Not jerky or claymation action anymore.

My thoughts are to get a little more powerful computer to handle these new fangled file formats.

it's free. asking for another file format definitely makes you a whiny bitch.
