Imagine: Living in a Socialist USA by Frances Goldin et al

Format: mobi/epub/azw3
Length: 324 pages
Genre: Non-Fiction/Politics
Date: 21 January 2014

Part history, part analysis, part call to action, Imagine: Living in a Socialist USA, is a roadmap for anyone troubled by the social, political and economic inequities plaguing this country and the world.

The polar ice caps are melting, hurricanes and droughts ravish the planet, and the earth's population is threatened by catastrophic climate change. Millions of American jobs have been sent overseas and aren't coming back. Young African-American men make up the majority of America's prison population. Half of the American population are poor or near poor, living precariously on the brink, while the top one percent own as much as the bottom eighty. Government police-state spying on its citizens is pervasive. Consequently, as former President Jimmy Carter has said, "we have no functioning democracy."

Imagine: Living In a Socialist U.S.A. is at once an indictment of American capitalism as the root cause of our spreading dystopia and a cri de coeur* for what life could be like in the United States if we had economic as well as a real political democracy. This anthology features essays by revolutionary thinkers, activists, and artists - including Academy Award-winning filmmaker Michael Moore, civil rights activist Angela Davis, incarcerated journalist Mumia Abu Jamal, and economist Rick Wolff - addressing various aspects of a new society and, crucially, how to get from where we are now to where we want to be, living in a society that is truly fair and just.

*Cri de coeur - (French) [Lit.] Cry from the heart.

Aren't we Amerikans living in socialism under the obama regime?
I want to live under pure Communism. Why? Because I'm a Commie just like my Mommie.
drdoodoo
no not at all. Even if you believe all the stuff the tea partiers say he would do if he had the chance, it's obvious he's been able to change very little in the last 5 years. He has been a very ineffective president saddled with a near useless congress as well. He has lived up to neither the fears of his enemies or the hopes of his supporters. We should have gone with Hillary.
Yep, because Communism worked so well for the Russians, and those they subjugated.
Or would you rather living in a Chinese sweatshop, working 12-15 hours a day for little more than food & a bed (in a 10-50 bed room).
I suppose...torrenting off a socialist is... that's OK, right? If I say it's because I'm a lumpenproletariat, does that mean I'm not a lumpenproletariat?

Meh.
Socialism is the slippery slope that always leads to communism. You've know you've reach communism when the misery and death toll climbs into the millions. Then it's to late.
Communism sounds like a viable theory until you try to implement it. It quickly devolves into a race to the bottom as there is no incentive to excel.
