"You're hearing the hottest hits in America from the Jersey Turnpike to Pacific Coast Highway; from Thomas E. Dewey throughway to Route 66. Up four notches this week to number 23, here's Barry Manilow, 'Somewhere Down The Road'." American Top 40 with Casey Kasem aired on radio from July 4, 1970 until August 6, 1988. This recording is one I found originally torrented on Demonoid. In this countdown: A listener wants to know, "What top 10 group had the youngest members?" Casey says the average age of this band was 13-years-old. Joan Jett & The Blackhearts have their first top 40 hit, "I Love Rock n' Roll" (at number 39). "Sea Of Love" by Del Shannon (at number 33) was firstrecorded by Phil Phillips and The Twilights. Casey plays some of the original. The The Go-Go's move their hit, "We Got The Beat" all the way from 64 to debut in the top 40 at number 31. Casey answers the question, "Which solo artist has had the most top 10 hits from a single album?" This performer had 4 top tens from one album in 1979, and went on to break his own record in 1984. Journey moves from number 15 to number 4 in only thier 4th week on the chart with their song "Open Arms." A former number 1 song in this countdown is also the first song by a white duo to hit number 1 on the soul chart in 19 years. Casey gives the details.
